Moment and Session

Facts about Session were verified on 6 October 2026.

Session and Moment are both focus timers for Apple devices. This page compares what each does, what each costs and which to choose.

Session

Session, made by Philip Young, is a focus timer with a session log. Each session has a category, and the log keeps them all: the free app shows the past two days and Session Pro shows the whole history. Session shows your calendar events inside the app, and Pro writes a finished session into Apple Calendar as an event. On the Mac, Pro blocks the apps and websites you name while a session runs, and can mute Slack. Pro also syncs between your devices, and AppleScript and Shortcuts can drive it. When a session ends, Session asks what you did and learned. It is on iPhone, iPad and Mac, and on Setapp.

Session blocks apps and websites on the Mac, while Moment Pro blocks the apps, categories and websites you choose on iPhone and iPad during a session, with Screen Time, not on the Mac. Moment has no calendar and does not mute Slack.

Moment

Moment helps you reflect on each session. You turn a dial, 5 to 90 minutes, and enter what the session is for. When it ends, you can mark how it felt with one of five feelings, on a scale from scattered to flowing, and Moment keeps your answer beside the time. Both the minutes and the feeling can go to Apple Health, as Mindful Minutes and State of Mind.

Sessions gather in Stats on every device. With Moment Pro, Stats and Insights show you the patterns in your work over time, and Insights are written on your device, by Apple Intelligence where it is available. Breaks are free, with the Session over, Break and Break over screens on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Vision Pro. There are four themes, Ocean, Air, Sand and Forest, each with its own ambient sound, and the app is available in 15 languages.

Moment is a native app on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Vision Pro. On the Mac it is a menu bar app, and on Apple Watch it has the Digital Crown and a complication. Session's listing shows no Apple Watch app.

Prices

Session is free, with unlimited sessions and the log of the past two days. Session Pro is $4.99 a month or $39.99 a year, with a seven-day trial that requires an account, and 30% off for students. There is no lifetime licence. Moment is free. Moment Pro is $2.99 a month, $19.99 a year or $39.99 once, a lifetime licence. These are US prices, and the apps show yours.

Choosing between them

If you plan the day in a calendar and work on a Mac, Session has blocking there, Slack muting and a log of what each session produced. If you want to set an intention for each session and reflect on it afterwards, Moment has the dial, Apple Health, Apple Watch, Vision Pro and app blocking on iPhone and iPad.
