A Forest alternative

This page compares Forest and Moment: what each does, what each costs and what Moment does not offer.

Forest

In Forest, a tree grows while you work and dies if you leave the app. Plant Together lets a group grow one forest at once, and the coins you earn can plant real trees through Trees for the Future, over two million so far. Forest syncs focused time to Apple Health, runs on Android, and has Chrome and Firefox extensions. Since December 2025 it is free to download, with Forest Plus for custom allowlists, pauses, tags, advanced analytics, every tree species and the full soundscapes.

What Moment does not offer

• Moment has no trees, coins or streaks.
• There are no shared rooms, and sessions are not shared with other people.
• There is no Android app and no browser extension. Moment is for Apple devices, and the timer runs in a browser.

What Moment offers

Moment helps you reflect on each session. You turn a dial, 5 to 90 minutes, and enter what the session is for. When it ends, you can mark how it felt with one of five feelings, on a scale from scattered to flowing, and Moment keeps your answer beside the time. Both can go to Apple Health, the minutes as Mindful Minutes and the feeling as State of Mind.

With Screen Time, Moment Pro blocks the apps, categories and websites you choose on iPhone and iPad while a session runs or is paused. Breaks are free, with the Session over, Break and Break over screens on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Vision Pro.

Sessions gather in Stats on every device. With Moment Pro, Stats and Insights show you the patterns in your work over time, and Insights are written on your device, by Apple Intelligence where it is available.

Moment is a native app on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Vision Pro. On the Mac it is a menu bar app, and on Apple Watch it has the Digital Crown and a complication. Forest's listing shows no Mac or Apple Watch app.

There are four themes, Ocean, Air, Sand and Forest, each with its own ambient sound.

Prices

Forest is free to download. Forest Plus is $5.99 a month or $35.99 a year, its listing's early-bird prices. Moment is free. Moment Pro is $2.99 a month, $19.99 a year or $39.99 once, a lifetime licence. These are US prices, and the apps show yours.

Moment, a focus timer for deep work

The timer is free on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Vision Pro, and your sessions sync between them.
